Popular Camping Spots In Udon Thani

Udon Thani, which is commonly referred to as Udon, is a location that has a lot going on, but it is also an area that connects the north-east of Thailand with the rest of the country. There is significant history in this part of Thailand, stretching through the ages and the wars of the 20th century.

However, there is a lot to like about modern day life in Udon Thani; and this is an ideal destination if you are considering camping in Thailand.

When you venture out of the heart of the city centre, you have a number of locations that are extremely welcoming to campers.

Huay Lang is a great place to camp

This area is just to the west of the city centre, and as a massive reservoir, it is an excellent choice for water-based activities. If you are looking to fish, raft or just watch the day roll by, you’ll find fewer finer places.

Naturally, many people are drawn to camping here; especially if you are keen to maximise the time you have to spend on adventures. You need to be careful camping close to running water, but equally, these facilities might make camping easier, and more enjoyable, for you.

Pho Foi Lom Eco Park plays host to many campers

If you are looking for a more conventional place to camp, this eco park is a fantastic option. Many groups come and camp overnight, enjoying a night under the stars or using this area as a base for a longer outdoor stay.

Whether you want to enjoy a picnic or you are setting off on a hike close to the beautiful waterfalls, this is an excellent location.

A key reason why so many people adore camping in this part of Udon is down to the diversity of wildlife that is close at hand. If you want to see animals and forestry for yourself, plan your camping trip around a stay here.

Erawan Cave is an impressive place to stay

If you are happy to venture slightly further, you will find Erawan Cave close to Loei and Nong Bua Lamphu. There is a bit of a climb involved here, including accessing more than 100 steps to reach the cave, so make sure everyone in your travelling party is in reasonable shape.

If you do venture up here, you will be rewarded in fine style. The cave itself is located in a brilliant looking limestone feature. Also, when you have a higher viewing point, you are rewarded with a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside.

Finding the right camping spot can make or break a trip, and this is the case for anyone travelling to or staying in and around Udon Thani. If you have camped here and found a great place to stay, we want to hear from you.

Pass on your Udon Thani camping trips, or any camping pointers for Thailand, and we will be more than happy to share them with our audience.
